MOTION EXPANSION
Netflix expanded the stream system to celebrate their diverse content. The challenge was to develop an animated brand that could encapsulate Netflix's essence while adapting to the multifaceted nature of its content and applications.
Commissioned by the creative agency Santos Dilone, and working hand-in-hand with them, our team went through an iterative design process. We conducted extensive research on Netflix's brand identity to ensure that this motion expansion would align with the platform's vision.
To meet Netflix's branding requirements, we leveraged 4 core audiovisual behaviors that set the foundation of the project.
Typography takes a dynamic character, and key messages gain an extra layer of depth and engagement with the traveling, revealing, pulsing, and expanding animations. Moreover, when applied to footage, these behaviors add a cinematic and immersive touch, enhancing the viewer's overall experience.
MORE THAN 150 MOTION PIECES
The audiovisual behaviors continue to drive the creation of over 150 animated applications for the brand. Each behavior is adapted across a wide range of motion pieces, producing a dynamic and unified brand identity that resonates with audiences on various platforms and channels.
A essential feature of the motion expansion toolkit is the ability to choose a stream color. This customization option ensures that the animation aligns seamlessly with either a brand or a show-specific contextual color, maintaining a coherent identity across all different applications.
As part of the project, the team has developed a comprehensive system of editable templates tailored for each specific deliverable. These templates empower the Netflix team with creative control and flexibility, enabling them to customize various aspects of the animation to suit their specific needs.
Within these templates, the Netflix team can choose between the stream behaviors so the animation aligns with the tone and message of each motion piece. Additionally, the templates provide the option to select the aspect ratio, catering to the various platforms and screens on which the animations are displayed. They also provide a way to import footage seamlessly. Finally, the editable templates give the team the flexibility to edit text and messaging as needed.
